The sizes of the cones varies but they are generally 10cm to 15cm long.

Dormouse Wood is mainly a broadleaf wood but it is also home to a couple of sections of pine and conifer. These provide some wonderful cones. When wet these spruce cones are closed up tightly. As they dry they open out to release the seeds hidden within. As well as being larger, spruce cones are more delicate than pine or fir cones - which are woodier - so you will want to treat them with care to keep them looking good for the years to come.
