Ivy wood

Ivy wood

£7.00

A uniquely shaped section of ivy wood, with a distinctly human form

This piece of of ivy wood has a full loop at one end, potentially making it ideal for a small mobile, or the centre of a hanging design. That was what first caught my eye and why I collected it. To give you an idea of these possibilities I have hung three copper style bells from it in some of the images.

When I was photographing however, it I realised that the wood has the look of a stylised human form. The loop creates the head, with two outstretched arms directly beneath. Moving down there is a beautifully angled torso, whilst a distinct turn in the wood then suggests legs, bent at the knees. Finally the piece has a pair of feet, one kicked out and slightly curved, with a tiny kink in the wood forming a heel.

A most unusual and totally natural shape - this piece is exactly as it was found on the woodland floor. It has simply been given time to dry. The wood was collected at the base of a hazel tree on which the ivy had grown for many years, before a section died and collapsed under its own weight.

NOTE: this piece of wood is fairly delicate. It will comfortably take small hanging items and can be worked with care but as with much fallen ivy wood, it is not a particularly sturdy material.

Approximate dimensions: 30cm long by 18cm wide.

NOTE: The images are of the exact piece - what you see here is what you will receive.

The bells are not included.
