Part of The Butterfly House range: inspired by a fusion of the woodland, live butterfly houses and Japanese style.

This piece has been created as an eye catching gift tag. It is all ready to add to your parcel and becomes a beautiful hanging decoration once the gift is opened.

The base is a lovely piece of richly toned dried conifer bark. It is topped with a tuft of preserved moss which cushions a simple slice of dehydrated apple. I was pleased with the combination of colours and textures that evolved as I made this piece. The creamy white of the apple flesh is set off by the red of its skin and that rich red is reflected in the red and gold butterfly. Add the dark red cord and the red/brown tints of the bark and it all came together.

The butterfly is made from Japanese origami paper bought during a special trip to New York around 16 years ago.

The reverse of the piece has a message area, made from handmade paper.
